Online Formats
Synchronous Online: Classes meet online at designated times. Meeting times and assignments follow a set schedule outlined in the course syllabus. Students should enroll in a synchronous program only if they can participate via videoconferencing, just as if they were attending on campus.
Asynchronous Online:Courses do not require real-time class meetings. Students access pre-recorded lectures, readings and assignments online. Assignments follow a set schedule outlined in the course syllabus. Asynchronous online courses may include optional traditional, synchronous and Q&A online sessions; the material covered is available to all students whether or not they attend the sessions.
Traditional and Synchronous Online:Students choose to participate online OR on campus during designated times. Meeting times and assignments follow a set schedule outlined in the course syllabus. Students should enroll in an on-campus and synchronous program only if they can attend face-to-face meetings or participate via videoconferencing. In some cases, program or instructor pre-approval is required to participate via the synchronous online modality.
Blended Online:All instruction occurs online and offers a mix of asynchronous and synchronous classes that meet during designated times. Meeting times and assignments follow a set schedule outlined in the course syllabus. Students should enroll in a blended program only if they can participate via videoconferencing, just as if they were attending on campus.
Hybrid:Combines in-person, synchronous online and/or asynchronous online classes. Meeting times and assignments follow a set schedule outlined in the course syllabus. Students should enroll in a hybrid program only if they can participate in on-campus classes and via videoconferencing, just as if they were on campus.
HyFlex (Hybrid-Flexible):Students choose the method of accessing course material: on-campus, synchronous online, asynchronous online or any combination of the three. Meeting times and assignments follow a set schedule outlined in the course syllabus. HyFlex courses are most suitable for highly independent and self-directed learners who may be juggling multiple priorities and/or have difficulty accessing campus during traditional hours.
